Student Mobility and Foreclosure
Is anyone aware of school districts working to keep students in place before foreclosure occurs?I'm interested in preventing student mobility and I'm aware of the McKinney-Vento Act as an option for homeless children. I'm curious as to what safeguards exist for students whose families maintain housing, but are forced to move to a different school district. Are there any policies in place to keep students in their school of origin?See More

Hi Jillien,
I won't be able to participate in the April 20th call, but in scanning the policy document, you might want to look at the concept of short sales to distressed owner-occupants as an alternative to foreclosure and short sale to a third party. There are a few people talking about whether there might be any potential for this in Baltimore. You might also want to look state by state at some of the recommendations, since Maryland has an equivalent to the PTFA that runs in perpetuity with no expiration. Thanks for including me in this group.
Regards,
Beth
